ARAB NEWSPAPERS IN THE UK
1. Shaikh Sultan of Sharjah when I saw him on 28 May mentioned in a ratherirritated fashion the two Arab periodicals now publ'ished in London whichwere brought to our attention previously by Shaikh : Saleh of Fujairah andthe editor of the Khaleej Times : Al Sharq al Jidid and Al Azmina al Arabiya.
2. Shaikh Sultan said that it was strange that the UK authorities allowedsuch subversive rags to be published in London. It was well known that theywere financed by Qadaffi. I asked if he had mentioned this to anyone whilsthe was last in the UK and he said, without directly answering, thathe now understood that the British authorities were taking steps to closeboth papers in the aftermath of the closing of the Libyan People's Bureau.

It would be interesting to know if MED can throw any light on this.
