I have had another look at thesepapers and at the export licence applications for Aden which have been comingin over the last two or three months(B 1191/1-60). I find that during Julyand August 5,694 rifles and pistols and3 million rounds of ammunition havebeen authorized for supply to the AdenGovernment and to the Sheikhdoms of theSouth Arabian Federation. Of thesequantities the Aden Gov ernment are receiving 2,004 rifles and pistols and 13 millionrounds of ammunition and the balance isgoing to the Sheikhdoms. Amongst thelatter, the Sheikhdom of Upper Aulaqi isby far the biggest customer, accountingfor 1,130 rifles and pistols and 900,000rounds of ammunition in the two monthsin question.

2. If these two months are representative the annual flow works out at roughly35,000 rifles and pistols and 223 millionrounds of ammunition, a pretty staggeringfigure, especially when one takes intoaccount the fact that large quantities ofammunition are also being ordered fromWest Germany.
