SAUDI CONTRIBUTIONS TO PALESTINE REFUGEES
An annual appropriation of 115 pound sterling (312,000) were
made by the Saudi Arabian Govemment for an additional contribution
to the welfare of the Palestine Arab Refugees in various Near East ern countries. The sum will be distributed by Saudi Arabian Embass ies there, and to Governmental and Voluntary Arab Organizations
working with the refugees,
This appropriation is in addition to the annual Saudi contribu tion in cash and in kind to the United Nations work and Relief Agency
for the Palestine refugees.
Another half million dollars is spent annually as direct contri bution to needy persons among the refugees, which include subsidies
for Palestine students studying in various institutions in the Middle
Last.
DEATH OF SAUDI MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE
H. E. Shaikh 'Abd al-'Aziz Al-Sudairi, Saudi Arabia's Minister
of Agriculture, passed away on November 30 while carrying out his
official duties.
HEALTH INSTITUTIONS FOR SAUDI ARABIA
The International Health Organization has decided to spend
$169,000 in Saudi Arabia for the establishment of a training school
for health auxiliaries, a tuberculosis center, a medical laboratory
and an obstetric and pediatric center.
SAUDI TELEPHONE STATISTICS
Saudi Arabia has 8130 telephones in public use; an average of
12 telephones for every 100 persons.
According to telephone statistics of the world, published by the
American Telephone and Telegraph Company (1955) principal countries
in the world have an average of 15 telephones for every 100 in the
population.
ARAB LEAGUE DISCUSSES OIL POLICY
The Arab League's Oil Connittee met in Cairo this month to dis cuss the following:
1. The implementation of decisions made by the Arab League's
Council.
2. A plan for coordinating the petroleum policies of member
states.
