CONTIDUNTIAL FROM BAHRAIN TO FOREIGN OFFICE Cypher/OTP DIPARTIMENTAL DISTRIBUTION Mr. Burrows No. 61 D. 2.55 pm. February 4, 1954. February 4, 1952 R. 1.30 p.m. February by1954 CONFIDENTIAL Addressed to Foreign Office telegram of 61 of February 4, Repeated for information Saving to Muscat. Your telegram No. 94. Jurisdiction over the Trucial Oman Levies, The Sultan would much prefer that we should exercise jurisdiction over our Levies while in his territory, but does not wish his cession of jurisdiction to be publicly known, I said that I thought this would be necessary (i.e. in order in Council). He indicated this might be easier if the reference was simply to troops in transit. 2. What are the arrangements with regard to the Aden Protectorate Levies in Masirah? If they can be dealt with under the Air Force Act, cannot the Army Act be made applicable to the Trucial Oman Levies? There would no doubt be a conflict between this and exchange of letters, but the Sultan would never press us to follow the latter in cases of this kind. DISTRIBUTED TO: Eastem Department 7777777
