Deu Julie,
CROWN PRINCE OF QATAR
1. The headmaster of the Doha English Speaking School tells me that at the start of this term Shaikh Hamad's son Jassim reported that he would be moving on next September to Doha College, the local British secondary school. It looks therefore as though Shaikh Hamad has decided against sending Jassim to Harrow.
2. There is however better news about Shaikh Hamad's idea of establishing a secondary school for girls on British lines in Doha for the education of Al Thani children. The new Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture tells me that he has been given the go-ahead and the funds to proceed with this project with a view to opening the school in September 1991. He hopes that the Embassy and the small group of consultants formed by George Savage who have been giving informal advice to Shaikh Hamad's wife, will continue to be associated with the project.
3. I hope that we shall learn more during the visit of Mr and Mrs Mellor.
