The Ras Al Khaimah Traffic Ordinance. 1969

BE IT ENACTED BY US, Saqr Bin Mohamed Bin Salim Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah and its dependencies :

(1) This Ordinance may be cited as the Ras Al Khaimah Road Traffic Ordinance, 1969, and shall
come into force on its issue date.

Chapter 1.

Preliminary

( 2 ) In this Ordinance, unless the context otherwise requires, the following words and expressions
mean =

"animal”

any camel, horse, ass, mule, cattle, sheep, goat or dog;

"bicycle"

any vehicle of two or three wheels, which is not fitted with any form of mechanical motor, but is driven by the energy of its rider;

"cart”

any vehicle drawn by one animal or more and any handcart (other than a perambulator or a baby carriage) drawn or pushed by a human being, and is used for the transport of passengers or goods;

"court"

the competent court to whose jurisdiction an accused is subject;

"goods vehicle" any mechanical vehicle designed or modified solely for the carriage of goods;

"Licensing Authority"

the official appointed by the Ruler for this purpose or his deputy;

"motor cycle” any mechanically propelled vehicle (other than an invalid carriage) having less
than four wheels and the weight of which unladen does not exceed 360 kilograms, provided that it is not designed or adapted for the transport of goods;

"motor vehicle” any mechanically propelled vehicle intended or adapted for use on road;

"Municipal Council” Municipal Council of any Town in the State;

"owner of vehicle” any person in whose name the Licensing Authority issued the licence to
use such a vehicle;

"police

the State Police;

"private vehicle” any vehicle designed for the transport of persons or goods without considera
tion, provided it is assigned to serve its owner and registered in his name;

"public conveyance" a motor vehicle used to carry passengers for hire or reward;

"public place" any public garden or sea beach and any unenclosed ground to which the public
have access whether with or without pass;

"public vehicle" any vehicle designed to transport persons or goods for consideration of any kind;
