2. I regret that we cannot give you a definite
answer to your query about source protection at the
present time, since we will first have to make some
additional enquiries. I hope to let you know the answer
soon.

I would like to point out, however, that we have
no evidence to support the allegation that GLUBB is in
fact either a homosexual or a drug addict. Members of
the Committee believe him to be so inclined, and thus felt
obliged to terminate his services. Perhaps my letter did
not make this distinction clear, in which case please
accept my apologies. I feel, however, that one would have
to proceed with extreme caution in a matter of this nature,
and I thought that I should stress this point. I might
add that we have no evidence to suggest that he is "in
touch with the Foreign Office"!

4. I will let you know the result of our enquiries
as soon as possible.
