FO 371/168949 1963Description
This file contains correspondence relating to:
- Efforts of the Ruler of Fujairah Sheikh Mohammad Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, to let a mineral concession and whether the interest of a Yugoslav company Elektrusond should be pursued, or whether this might have unwanted political risks (1)
- Request from the Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Shakhbut Bin Sultan Al Nahyan for a British company to work the mineral deposits in Abu Dhabi. He hopes it might provide an alternative means of livelihood for those, such as on Dalma Island, who can no longer make a living by pearling. However, surveys have indicated that Abu Dhabi does not have sufficient deposits for commercial exploitation (2-3)
- Enquiry from Paringa Mining and Exploration Company Limited, regarding an approach they have received offering them mining rights other than oil in the Trucial States (4)
- Sheikh Shakhbut's wish for a preliminary survey to be carried out of mineral deposits in Abu Dhabi. A costing for a visit by a geologist has been prepared by Overseas Geological Surveys (5)
