FO 371/156809 1961Description
This file contains correspondence relating to:
- Revised range of overprinted stamps soon to go on sale in Muscat and Das Island (1)
- Draft brief regarding postal services, for discussion with the Sultan of Muscat and Oman, along with comments and suggested amendments, particularly on the question of whether the Sultan should join the Universal Postal Union (UPU) (2)
- Another copy of the draft brief for discussion with the Sultan, along with memoranda on the present organisation of postal services in Muscat, and suggestions for how the service could be handed over to the Sultan's Government. Also included is an extract from A R Walmsley's discussion with the Sultan, in which Walmsley suggests that the Sultanate cease to use British overprinted stamps, as it is inappropriate for a country that is not a British colony to do so. There is also a delivery note for a series of stamps from the Trucial States and Bahrain, intended to help the Sultan think of any design preferences he might have for possible Sultanate stamps (3)
- Further discussions with the Sultan regarding the need for the Sultan's post office to stop using British stamps, and further correspondence regarding the development of designs for stamps for Muscat and Oman (4-5)
