EASTERN DEPARTMENT ARABIA FROM No. 356. Dated ferils Registry_i" Aprils. Received in Registry-- REFERENCES MINUTES (Print) thalu I discussed this telegram with our(!) Mr. Wright and we both feel a little worried lest these ....(?) may in fact herald the blowing of the gaff in Oman. (How disposed of) . We have hitherto agreed that the less we tell anybody about what is going on there the better, but I cannot help thinking that it might now be prudent to let the R.I.O. and one or two of the more important M.E. posts know what is going on and what they should say if the Press really succeed in doing us down. Would you ..? be prepared to reconsider the possibility of a Guidance. (C.J. Pirie Gordon) April 8, 1958 (Action completed) (Inde: Mr. Walmsley The fact is that present operations (and intended operations) go little beyond what has been happening over the past few months. I would much prefer to wait until the occasion arises before sending a Guida nce. The terms would almost certainly have to be adjusted in the light of circumstances at the time anyhow. Meanwhile the posts mentioned by IPD will have had the copy of our letter in EM 1042/1 containing sufficient guidance for the present. I.P 39984
