This file contains correspondence relating to:
- D F Hawley's opinion in favour of a Trucial States Federation to ensure they survive. Hawley proposes carefully sounding the Rulers out and encouraging Sheikh Saqr Bin Sultan Al Qasimi of Sharjah to go ahead with the development of his ideas. C A Gault believes the federation should be encouraged but not imposed (5-6)
- Attempt on Sheikh Saqr's life by Sayyed Abdulla after the former had tried to settle Abdulla's marital dispute (7)
- 13th meeting of the Trucial Council on 1 December 1958, attended by the Rulers of all seven of the Trucial States except Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum of Dubai who was represented by his cousin Sheikh Mohammad Bin Hashir. It includes copies of the agenda and minutes of the Council and the Public Health and Education Committees. Subjects on the agenda include: Trucial States development and the budget for 1959/60; Workmen's compensation; Trucial Oman Scouts; Trucial States postage stamps; passports and visas; and arms control. The subjects that aroused most interest were the teacher training programme in Bahrain; the control of shooting gazelle; and the designs for the proposed Trucial States postage stamps (8)
