KUWAITI AMBASSADOR TO PAKISTAN DESIGNATE

1. I am writing to commend to you Qasim Al-Yagout and his wife Badria, who are leaving Abu Dhabi at the end of the month to take over the Kuwaiti mission in Islamabad.

2. I have been here for rather less than two months but during that time I have formed a very favourable impression of Qasim - as he is known to his pals. I understand too that on the distaff side Badria is extremely approachable and puts herself out to be of assistance to the diplomatic wives.

3. Qasim has been in Abu Dhabi for about ten years and is not surprisingly the Dean of the Corps. While he does not take these responsibilities too seriously, he has kindly gone out of his way to introduce me and other new arrivals to the local dignitaries. Having spent ten years here and being a Gulf Arab himself, he naturally knows everyone and appears to be on very good terms with all. His introductions therefore are worth having.

4. As an individual he is cheerful, easy-going and, by local standards, very energetic. I understand that he is something of a painter. I have not seen any of his work but it is said to reveal talent. I must say, having seen the decor at his new house, I remain somewhat sceptical about this, but I am sure you will have a chance to judge for yourself.
