MANAGEMENT IN CONFIDENCE iv. The honorarium for overseas service of thiskind - currently I believe half a per cent of annualsalary per week between 4 and 8 weeks' overseasservice and one per cent of annual salary per weekwhere the number of weeks spent abroad is 8 or more. A rough calculation on this basis suggests either a daily rate(including the honorarium) of £275 or a daily rate of £230 plusa separate calculation of the honorarium on standard lines. From my personal point of view the "fee" route is marginally theleast attractive because payment in lieu of pension rightsattracts a full tax charge for which I have not attempted to layoff (the arithmetic is beyond me!) But I would be perfectlyhappy to live with it if "Diamond" considerations point in thatdirection. I hope this rather lengthy letter gives you the material you needto bring this matter to a speedy conclusion. As an aid to thatprocess I am also copying it to Rex Davie (as guardian of Diamond),Paul Dyer (as the Treasury's pension expert), Adrian Carter(wearing his Treasury pay hat) and, for information, toGeoff Morgan.
