His Grace considers, however, that when regarded from the wider point of view of future relations between H.M.G. and Turkey, there are grave objections to the proposal to allow the Ex-Sultan to take up his residence in British Territory. He views with apprehension any state which might involve His Majesty's Government in a controversy nelatustó affecting the Caliphate, and desires me to invite His Lord ship's atten tion to the Ex-Sultan's recent manifesto, published in the "Morning Post" of the 17th April, from which it appears that the Ex-Sultan does not acquiesce in the action of the Angora Government in regard to the Caliphate and has no intention of abandoning his personal claims in the matter.
